The Collapse
The food riots will begin in the cities about a week after the crash. All stores will be stripped bare within 3 days, if not sooner. Those who are used to picking up dinner after work each day will begin getting desperate after day 2. Those who have a 3 days supply of food on hand (thats what the Gov recommends so it must be ok. Right?) will begin to get worried on day 3 as no Gov relief is in sight. Local goverment, if they have any brains, will have secured food distibution warehouses with police and begin a rationing system. This will only work for a short period of time until the food runs out and no semi's have rolled in to refill the warehouses. Now the rioting begins. Picture the city in flames, as lawless, desperate crowds begin breaking into buildings searching for food and torching those building which have none out of frustration. The fire depts will be overwhelmed by the sheer number of fires buring and will become unable to respond soon after. Police presence on the streets will disappear as they are re-assigned to protect strategic locations from the rioting. Many will simply not show up to work as they are home protecting their families. At this time expect the Fed Gov to step in and begin herding the population off to food distribution centers for more efficient distribution methods. This period of time will be chaotic, during which many of the unprepared will perish... Selous Scout
