Software for Survival

Post  Selous Scout on Fri Oct 05, 2007 2:30 pm

With all the information posted on the internet, you are bound to find all sorts of interesting data that you wish to keep available for future reference. I find myself saving web pages everyday, along with all the baggage they drag along with them to my hard drive.

Needing a way to keep this info organized so it could be found and utilized later led me to several different programs which fill this need wonderfully.

#1. Adobe Acrobat ver.8.X.X.
Being able to save whole websites to a single PDF file which can be edited is great. The price however is not. There are other PDF creators out there, but I am not familiar with them since I have Acrobat. No Adobe, I will not upgrade anymore. My version works fine.

#2. MyNoteskeeper v1.8.
Their website says it best...
Keep your personal notes and information in one place...!
Each day we are confronted with enormous amounts of information. Organizing, memorizing, and utilizing this vast amount of information is often overwhelming. Short-term solutions like writing everything down on scattered pieces of paper is both ineffective and ultimately fruitless. Inevitably we ask ourselves if there isn't a better way. Actually, there is.
My Notes Keeper is the premier note/outliner application for Windows 9x/2000/XP/NT. It allows you to store all of your notes and information in an easy-to-use outline, where you can quickly find what you need.

#3. AZZ Cardfile v3.2.
This is a long time personal favorite and is in Beta ver 4. It does the same things as MyNoteskeeper and perhaps a few more.

From the website:
An idea of AZZ Cardfile is simple paper cardfile or rolodex: pile of empty cards. Not any fields. You have empty "paper" sheet when you start new card. This approach has an advantage: you can keep everything in one file (cardfile "box"): addresses, notes, etc. It is not convenient to keep your addresses and recipes in the same traditional database table.

Other advantage is fast card finding: just type any fragment of card title in the filter box. Therefore, AZZ Cardfile helps me, as disordered person, to keep all things in one heap, but easy find what I need.

These last 2 applications are helping me keep my info more or less organized and accessible.
Acrobat gives me document portability between computers and operating systems.
Utilize the trial periods of this software to become familiar with these apps and see if they suit your needs. If they do, support the authors and buy their products.
